Northwest Florida CHDO focuses on creating affordable housing opportunities for populations, including but not limited to, persons with developmental and or intellectual disabilities; persons with special needs; youth that have aged out the state foster care program; survivors of natural disasters, survivors of domestic abuse and disabled veterans living in the communities of Northwest Florida.
To best serve its target population, the Northwest Florida Community Housing Development Corporation set up its governing board to reflect a cross representation of community members. Through its bylaws, the organization’s board is comprised of one-third members representing the targeted population to be served, one-third members representing the public sector, and the remaining representatives are either Pensacola Habitat for Humanity staff members or serve on the organization’s current board of directors. Staff members from Pensacola Habitat are extremely familiar with affordable housing practices as the organization is an affordable housing developer and mortgage lender, with a portfolio of more than 1,800 mortgages.
